I vant to buy a Longaberger

I'm sorry; I couldn't help a word play with my favorite line from the Pink Panther. Remember when he is trying to lose the French accent while practicing how to order a hamburger? No? Sighs. Trust me, it was funny.

At some point in my life I was introduced to Longaberger baskets. I guess they are a big deal for some. I have family members who sell these as a business effort. Honestly, I don't get it. I never have. I guess that is why I own three of them. I must have been invited to three parties is all I can figure.

Ideally, if these are such a big deal, I should be able to transform these three from dust catching items to a few bucks in my pocket. A quick look at Ebay shows 24,670 Longaberger baskets for sale. Hmm. Craigslist for my area shows 39. Yeah.

I'll try to sell them, but I doubt it will be worth the effort. No matter what, they will be gone!
 

Family, they always send you packing with snacks and clothes

This is my cousin Molly. She was visiting us recently and mentioned that she didn't have shorts with her. Well! We just happened to have a whole basket of clothes heading for consignment and they were her size.

Sweet. Molly gained some free duds and we are happy to know that she can enjoy them. 

That worked out well. Miss you Molly.

Shoes fit for a chef

Yeah, it is the week of shoes I guess. Yet another pair of shoes for your viewing pleasure, but aren't they cool? My daughter was very excited to find these, but after we ordered them online, she really didn't like them on. So...I will drop them out on Ebay and Craigslist to see if someone out there will take them and love them.

 
If you have a chef in your life, let them know these are for sale. $25. Never worn.

It will be a good day tomorrow if I can spend some time cleaning out my closet. I won't bore everyone with photos of every last item, but I will maybe get a group photo.

So far so good.

Soles 4 Souls

Shoes. Shoes. Shoes.

My laundry room is overflowing with shoes, boots and other footwear that, well, haven't been on a foot in some time. My closet is pretty much the same. Now, neither my daughter nor I are what you would call shoe freaks, but we do have some extras.

The shoes in my closet are more of the dress shoe variety. I sat cross legged on the floor of my closet this morning and took a hard look at what I haven't worn in a while, and at the pairs that have given me blisters. Those will go to consignment this weekend, more on those in another post.

Tennis shoes and flip flops will be placed in a donation box at my local Whole Foods. That box goes to a group called Soles 4 Souls. http://www.soles4souls.org/

I like the group, I like the cause, and I like that my laundry room will be cleared out this weekend!

Gone!

Medicine cabinet cleanup

Have you seen that commercial, where the visitor sneaks a peak into the homeowner's medicine cabinet and everything spills loudly onto the tile bathroom floor? It's funny, but oh wow, so embarrassing. Well, my medicine cabinet was not quite that bad, but it did need some attention.

I was rooting around in there this week looking for something and a bunch of other somethings fell out onto the counter. So, in the spirit of purging, I sorted through it all.

I understand that some women would look at this and say, "That is it?" Listen, I still have a few drawers and cabinets to work on, but that will be another day.

This stuff is in the garbage!

 

Bowl you over Manga bowls

Moving right along with the 365 Day Declutter project, I am turning these fine Manga theme bowls loose.

A few years ago my daughter was all gung ho over anything manga, typical of kids that age. She had comic books, how to draw manga books, little plastic characters, the whole shebang. So when I saw these

I figured we had to have them.

She has outgrown them and honestly, they just don't go with my all white dishes theme.

Laura Ashley wedding gown (Vintage?)

So I was all excited when I found out that a local consignment shop specialized in reselling wedding gowns. I rushed my dress to the cleaners and then marched straight over to the little shop in Littleton.

It never occurred to me that they would not want it. Imagine my surprise when they not only didn't want it, they called it vintage! What the heck?

 

You know, I have a child in high school, I have some gray hair, I have been to a class reunion, but I have never felt old until this cute little chickie told me my wedding dress was vintage. Harumph! (She also said it was too plain. Evidently everyone likes the sparkly, frou frou look as opposed to simple and elegant summer.)

So...it is all ready to go and posted out there on Craigslist. If that doesn't work, I will either donate it, or maybe dye it something crazy like hot pink and stitch beads and feathers to it. Maybe then the consignment shop in Littleton will take it. Rolls eyes. Wish me luck.

Either way, it is gone!

The start of a year long project to rid my home of stuff I don't use, need or love.

I am very excited about this project, not only because I will reduce the clutter in my life, but because I am beginning to understand that the things I get rid of will sometimes be useful to others and that is a good feeling.

So, here we go! The first thing to go is a 32 gallon fish tank. Used for…fish. And hermit crabs before that. Donated to Hilary for her new lizard via Freecycle. 9/5/2010

Really happy to have that out of the garage! I hope the lizard is enjoying the new digs.

I took my wedding dress to the wedding consignment shop in Littleton and was told that they don't take "vintage" dresses. VINTAGE???

I think Freecycle.org is going to be a HUGE help with this junk elimination project of mine!
